Uncovering The Truth about Carnival

As spring approaches and the Christian commemoration of Jesus' resurrection from the dead draws near, let's have a raunchy blow-out party before we sincerely reflect upon this day. One last time to sin before I start praying and fasting. Does that make any sense to you?  The wild parties just get bigger and bigger every year. Whole cities shutdown in order to host revelers who drink excessively, bare their breasts and asses all to the cheers of throngs of people attending these events.
(For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life- is not of the Father but is of the world.- 1 John 2:16)

In New Orleans, Louisiana you even get rewarded for this with a cheap and gaudy purple, yellow and green necklace. The color purple represents Jesus' suffering in Catholic tradition. During Mardi Gras purple becomes a symbol of nude excess. Does this honor Jesus atoning death and resurrection? What about the recent criticism the President of Brazil received for sharing an image of two people engaged in gross and humiliating sexual practices right on the streets of Brazil during Carnival? Was the President wrong for sharing such images? Or, was he a leader who Uncovered The Truth About Carnival? (Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.- Deuteronomy 12:32)

The present day displays described as pre-Lenten or Easter season activities are anything but. They are in fact in opposition to everything that is considered godly and good in the Bible. I would venture to say that nearly everything that happens during Carnival or Mardi Gras violates the commandments of God. What goes on there is an abomination to God.
(He said unto me, "Turn thee yet again, and you shalt see greater abominations that they do." - Ezekiel 8:13)

The floats and parades feature images of false gods, demons, and scantily clad women. People are getting drunk, having all sorts of sex and doing drugs while the media presents this as a pre-Lenten event.  We have to begin to change this narrative. Mardi Gras and Carnival are the anthithesis of our Lord's Resurrection Day and Christians should have nothing to do with it.
(Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provisions for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. - Romans 13:13-14)

I'm not saying not to eat a king cake or pancake on Shrove Tuesday. Just understand that this is a cultural tradition and separate it from the solemnity of Easter. However, when faced with the debauchery of Carnival do not succumb to the temptation encompassed therein. The best way to do that is by taking a closer look at he Biblical mandate regarding some of these practices. Then resolve to keep the Lord's commandments.
(And now Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good? - Deuteronomy 10:12-13)
